Nora Swain (a.k.a. Nora Sneaky)

My name is Crystal Swain and I am Nora's mother. My family is currently grieving the heart-breaking and unexpected loss of our young daughter Nora Swain (a.k.a. Nora Sneaky)

Nora had a special connection with Old Woman Bay on Lake Superior. Growing up it was a place our family visited regularly and Nora loved being there.

Nora's last wish was to have her ashes spread at Old Woman Bay. We would like to travel there as a family to hold this ceremony and honour Nora's memory and legacy. As well as help bring us some closure and connection in this incredibly difficult time. This is a long and costly trip for our family and we are seeking financial support to help us make this journey.

Nora was very involved in Amnesty’s Write for Rights (W4R) campaign and contributed a powerful blog post about her hopes and fears for her Nation’s future. You can read that blog post, and hear her voice here .

In Nora’s testimonial, written four years ago when she was 15, she wrote that she wanted to become a journalist. “I’ve seen how journalists can help bring problems to light. I want to be able to help bring my community’s story to light and be the one to share it directly.”

We ask that you share anything you are able to help us bring Nora's story to light and bring her back to a place she found peace.
