Nora Sabella fought Stage 4, High Risk neuroblastoma from January 2018 to March 2019. She had just turned 4 years old at diagnosis. Front line treatment included 6 cycles of intense chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, a stem cell transplant, 12 doses of radiation, trips to the ER, multiple stays in the PICU, countless scans and blood tests, and immunotherapy. Nora has had some permanent hearing loss due to the chemo. In April 2019, Nora started a 2-year vaccine trial with Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.
During a routine scan in October 2020, a small lesion was detected in her belly in the primary tumor site. They decided to wait 6 weeks to see if it changed. Her repeat MRI showed the lesion grew. Nora had a second tumor resection on Nov 23 at Akron Children’s. It was confirmed that it was neuroblastoma.
After meeting with her oncologist, Nora is having a port placed Monday, December 7 and starting chemo the next day. She will undergo up to 17 cycles of chemo, lasting 5-6 days every 3-4 weeks.
