NONSTOP - PAUSENLOS, an art catalogue
Donation protected
My name is Barbara Philipp, I am a visual artist, working in drawing, paintings and performances.
In March 2020, I started to draw the changes which happened to us in our daily life, languages and habits while a worldwide pandemic was exclaimed. I began to draw to understand, record and reflect on this new reality that seemed so unreal to me!
The reason for starting this campaign is to make this costly project affordable for everyone who wants to buy the catalogue. If I raise enough money for printing, design, editing, translation and publishing costs, this hardcover catalogue in format 21 x 21 cm, with colour prints and texts of two wonderful curators in English, German and Dutch, can be kept affordable.
The GoFundMe goal will not cover all my expenses, but it will help me enormously to realise this book!
Content of the book:
We read media reports and snap up headlines. What do we do with these? How do we process this information? And above all, what sticks with us? I’m interested in the restrictions of the moment in the private and the political.
There is not one reality in this new age; each of us must battle with the terms of the Lockdown and go about this differently. The pandemic had shown us society’s wounds, which were eagerly overlooked before and led us to new crises.
Social and economic factors yank the corset around women tighter. Women often still live with the feeling of responsibility for the domestic sphere. They still grow up with this. Patriarchal structures live on inside people’s heads and become suddenly very evident in emergencies and are difficult to circumvent because of a lack of alternatives. As an artist, the question of earnings and division of labor is naturally even more precarious because there is seldom a steady income. Whether female or male, Transgender or Transsexual, I think that every person can help provide. And that one should share these tasks in a family, without one person feeling more responsible than another.
The drawings are my reflections on time, power structures and the use of language; they testimony my artistic and family life in different countries.
More than 80 images of the drawing series will be shown.
Therefore I need your support. Thank you.
