Race Around the World Event for Suicide Prevention
Donation protected
Did you know that 1 in 6 veterinarians consider suicide at some point in their career? Veterinary professionals are at increased risk for death by suicide compared to the general public. It's a common assumption that we play with animals all day and the soon to be veterinarians from JCU would like to change that common misconception.
"Professionals employed in the veterinary industry have poorer self-reported mental health than the general population, with evidence that veterinary professionals working in Australia and New Zealand commonly experience elevated rates of depression, anxiety, burnout and suicidality" (Frontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022)
In an attempt to raise awareness surrounding the mental health of all veterinary professionals, the 2023 graduating class of vets at James Cook University have proudly teamed up with NOMV, an organisation that addresses the mental well-being in the veterinary industry. As well as supporting this amazing organisation, you would also be supporting the JCU graduating class of 2023 with half of the funds raised going towards their graduation ball in December 2023. Some of us are even doing 'Sober September'! Please show your support :)
What does NOMV do? "NOMV helps veterinary professionals through peer-to-peer support, financial support grants, education presentations, and by collaborating with partner agencies to extend services to the veterinary community"
