My name is Gary David Perez, it is March 22, 2015 and I am almost 5 months old (actually I should only be 2 months). I was born October 26, 2014 (my mom’s birthday) , my parents are Jillian and Adrian. I was born very early at 28 weeks and 3 days (about 3 months early). My mom had preeclampsia which is very dangerous for babies and mommies. She spent 10 days in the hospital, with very high blood pressure, before I was born and 1 week after, since she had to have a c-section – my mom is really strong and tough! My daddy was right there with us supporting both of us all the way through. When I was born I weighed 2 lbs 3 oz and actually didn’t have any immediate health problems. We all knew God was with us answering prayers. I was in the NICU with all my wonderful nurses (I kinda miss them so we still go visit them now and then) for about 2 months. I came home just in time for Christmas. We had a few ups and downs but mainly it was all a learning experience for mom & dad to learn how to take care of me. They learned quickly and I love them so much.
I am telling you all this and asking for your help. My mom & dad have been through so much the last 5 months. I guess mom was really sick the entire pregnancy and wasn’t able to work much. She went in the hospital, then I was born and dad took lots and lots of time off work to be with us and take care of things at home. Normal bills still had to be paid and they had lots of extra expenses while back and forth staying with me (they told me I’ll understand that someday). My mom has appointments set up for me in Portland the second week in April to see specialists. This is where the help comes in. I am going to open a “gofundme” account that can help with my medical expenses that have come up so far and to help with as follows:
I still have a few problems: #1 I have this awful gagging thing going on. Sounds like I am choking and I can’t catch my breath sometimes, it really scares my mom or whoever is taking care of me. The doctors in Billings don’t know what is causing it and how to correct it. #2 I have this funny belly button hernia that needs to be repaired. It sticks out quite a bit and you can hear my intestines as the liquids pass through. I think it’s pretty cool but my Grandma Lori thinks I might not like it so much when I’m a teenager! #3 The issue that is most pressing, at this time, is my hearing. Evidently at birth I was given antibiotics which may have affected my hearing. I badly needed the medications so this is something my parents knew we may have to deal with at some point. Hearing tests have shown I may have lost around 69% of my hearing in both ears, which is a real bummer. Billings doesn’t have the proper pediatric equipment to adequately test so we need to see a Pediatric Audiologist. Between you and me…. All these specialists scare me a little bit, but I’m thinking they have cute nurses and I learned how to flirt really well in the NICU so I should be okay!
If any of you can help us out with any small amount I would be very grateful. I promise I will do my best to be a good boy, I already smile and laugh a lot. I love my family so much and I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
I love you all,
Gary David Perez
