Nolan James Hill was born on Monday, February 6, 2017 in Goldsboro, NC to Bradley and Hannah Hill. Soon after his arrival, the medical staff became concerned that Nolan had a congenital heart defect (Transposition of the Great Arteries) and flew him to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. On Tuesday morning, the medical staff at Vidant discovered that Nolan had other congenital heart defects besides the initial one discovered. The decision was made to transfer Nolan to Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC on Tuesday. After several tests, it was determined that Nolan had Pulmonary Atresia, Double inlet L Ventricle, and Transposition of the Great Arteries L-type. These heart defects prevent the proper blood flow through the heart which results in the oxygenated blood not being distributed to the rest of the body. A surgery can be performed, which places a shunt which helps with blood flow through the heart. The surgery places a Blalock Taussig Shunt (BT shunt). Nolan had surgery at 5 days old on Friday, February 10th, 2017. The surgery was a success and Nolan has been doing well since the operation. He will spend a minimum of 2 weeks at Duke before hopefully coming home for a short time before going back for more surgery.
Within the first 24 hours of life, Nolan was flown to two different Medical Centers so that he could get the treatment he needed. Nolan’s parents are continuing to process all of the information and do not know when they will return to work. Funds received through this GoFundMe will help Nolan’s parents with immediate needs, such as bills, food, gas, hotel, etc.
