Noel's Big Beard Shave Off in support of children with disabilities.
Noel Crowley lives in Castleisland with his wife Elaine and two children Harry and Amy. During the summer months he enjoys nothing better than time spent with his family in the beautiful Trench Caravan Park.
Around these parts Noel is a legend, well known and liked and a great community man. He loves the outdoor life hillwalking, cycling and watersports. Noel is also involved with the Castleisland and Currow juvenile teams. Noel is a busy man, so busy in fact that over the past 8 years he has not had time to shave and as a result has grown a mega beard!!
For a long time Noel has wanted to give back and do a fundraiser for a children’s charity but has been waiting for the right moment. Noel met Treasa McAuliffe who works in St. Gabriel’s in Limerick. Treasa is also a loyal GAA woman.
When Treasa and Elaine got together they persuaded Noel the time was now right to shave off the beard and raise funds for a very worthy cause. St. Gabriel's School & Centre is located in Dooradoyle, Limerick and provides a range of specialist services and therapy interventions for over 650 children with disabilities in the Midwest.
Up to 70 children attend a special school onsite. St. Gabriel’s also provide
hydrotherapy and orthotics to children with disabilities and to people in the wider community who benefit from using these services.
St. Gabriel’s hydrotherapy pool was purpose built for therapy and rehabilitation purposes. Since opening in 2009 it has been used by an ever increasing number of people from the disability, voluntary, and community sectors including children with disabilities attending St. Gabriel’s services. All these groups and individuals report great benefits from using this unique facility
More recently St. Gabriel's built a children's respite house near Mungret to provide short breaks for children with significant physical disabilities and complex medical needs.
Funds raised from Noel’s fundraising campaign will go to support specialist programmes to benefit children with disabilities and help improve their quality of life.
