Noah’s pediatric intensive care journey

Hi, my name is Lisa and as most of you know our son Noah is a bright, handsome, funny boy who just happens to have Cerebral Palsy along with many other physical and medically complex conditions resulting from a pulmonary hemorrhage at 3 days old.

On Friday, Sept 30th our sweet Noah was rushed by ambulance to our local Cleveland Clinic in Vero Beach with acute pain and shortness of breath. After some additional testing we were transported to Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando where it was found that he suffered an unprecedented second spontaneous esophageal rupture. (He previously suffered these same events in 2017) Due to the complexity of his already severely medically challenged condition, Noah has developed bilateral pleural effusions (fluid around his lungs) resulting in the placement of a chest tube. As a child who is dependent on bipap positive airway pressure for sleep obstruction, this news has been difficult in the management of his recovery. Noah now requires constant high flow oxygen to try and keep his lungs inflated until the time his esophagus and lungs can heal enough for them to try to reintroduce positive pressure. There is no guarantee that he will not need dangerous and complex surgery to correct his condition.

We are facing a very lengthy hospital stay which has our family divided with one of us needing to be here in Orlando full time. While the Ronald McDonald house at Lake Nona is providing us with a safe place to stay and meals, the lack of income to our household will be challenging for us as this was unexpected to say the least. We welcome your kind donations, prayers, positive energy, and endless outpouring of love for our boy. (He turned 15 on Sunday!)

UPDATE:
Last night x-rays showed a complete collapse of the left lung which resulted in Noah needing to be intubated and placed on a ventilator for support. After a bronchoscopy this morning his lung is improving and Noah is resting comfortably under sedative medication. Thank you so much for your continued prayers.
