Dear Family and Friends,

This is Noah Harris. I am writing to you about my mitzvah project to help provide educational and athletic opportunities for poverty-stricken children in low income areas of Chicago, by giving them free access to tutoring, mentorship and access to the sport of hockey. Education and hockey are huge parts of my life. I’ve been really lucky to have great teachers and coaches ever since I was little. These teachers and coaches not only have helped me develop my knowledge and skills, but they also have provided great mentorship to help me develop as a person. I want to help make sure that as many other kids as possible have access to great teachers and mentors and have the opportunity to learn to play the game of hockey that I love so much.

As I researched possible mitzvah projects, my parents and I came across the Inner-City Education Program (ICE). ICE provides tutoring, academic scholarships, and a hockey development program for kids who otherwise wouldn’t have access to these great opportunities. All student-athletes participate in a mandatory one-hour academic session with approved Inner-City Education Program tutors before or after every practice. While I am not yet qualified to tutor these kids academically, I have spent several practices on the ice with them serving as a student-coach, and I will continue to do so through the end of the school year and hopefully next year as well. It has been a really cool experience to act as a “coach”, sharing the skills I’ve learned over the years and showing these kids why hockey is so much fun!

Beyond my bar mitzvah, I want to continue to help these kids develop as hockey players, and I want to help ICE increase the number of kids they can serve academically. Please help me raise funds for ICE.
