Noah’s Battle With Hydrocephalus
Donation protected
Noah Mayfield is a 14 year old fighter, born with hydrocephalus. After years of thriving, he’s back in the hospital, in a coma, with a tube helping him to breathe.
WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP TO DONATE TO NOAH’S PARENTS AS THEY GO THROUGH THIS TIME. If Noah and his family don’t get the help they need, they will struggle to afford the basics - all while trying to help their son recover and fight this in the hospital.
Last weekend, Noah’s brother caught a bug & when Noah started displaying the same symptoms of fever, vomiting, head & body aches, everyone assumed he’d caught the same illness. On Monday night, his condition worsened & he stopped breathing. His parents had to perform chest compressions for over 7 minutes until the ambulance arrived.
- Noah had to be placed in a medically induced come
- His brain shunt had stopped working & pressure had been building on his brain.
- They were able to remove some of the fluid from his brain & his vitals improved enough and they were able to do the shunt replacement surgery before he was transferred to a new hospital for specialized care.
- We aren’t sure yet what damage might have been caused by the pressure & lack of oxygen.
- he was intubated, but then became alert enough to remove the tube on Thursday
- BUT he was reintubated today (11/10/23) after his vitals dropped rapidly from a convo of meds and high oxygen (he also has a collapsed lung)
His parents have been by his side day & night as he struggles to recover. They are still traumatized from seeing their son stop breathing and watching him code at the hospital.
Noah has a long road ahead of him and his parents are doing the best they can but they have 2 other boys as well the cost of gas to go back & forth to see him at the hospital that’s two hours away. The medical bills will be piling up while they’re unable to work because they’re taking turns being by his side.
This family has been through so much already, and at a time when they were just trying to recover from all of these other accidents and tragedies, the greatest one has struck.
If his parents don’t receive the support they need, it will be nearly impossible to afford basic necessities like food, gas, and paying utility bills (especially during such high inflation times).
This family has been through so much hardship these past few months:
- Noah’s parents caught covid & used up all their sick time.
- Noah’s dad, Brian, then injured his ankle right after and was out for so long after his surgery with no sick pay or disability.
- After he recovered from that, he ended up needing gallstone surgery, which he is still recovering from.
- They have NO MORE emergency money after all of this misfortune.
I want to raise enough so they don’t have to worry about money while they’re concentrating on getting Noah better.
Any amount that you can donate support Noah and his family’s basic needs - which no family should have to worry about as they watch their son day after day, with a tube in his throat helping him to breathe.
Please share! If you can’t donate, that’s the best way to also help.
I’ll keep updating as we find out more information.
