Dear Family and Friends,
As a mother, I was looking forward to my son graduating college next May with his bachelor’s degree in fine arts. But, my joy, pride and anticipation was abruptly cut short.
Recently, my family experienced a devastating tragedy due to my son's mental health crisis.
At the beginning of his junior year in college, Noah began to struggle with mental illness. His symptoms began to disrupt his life, and he had problems taking his online classes, completing his assignments, and could not hold a job.
Noah was admitted to the hospital later that fall, diagnosed with bipolar psychosis, received stabilizing treatment, scheduled for outpatient services, released and resumed his studies. Two months later, paranoia emerged while he was isolated in his dorm, due to Covid restrictions. He began to feel like he was not safe on campus due to gang activity; he felt his teachers did not like him, and others students were plotting against him.
He told me that he wanted to take the spring semester off, so he returned home. While alone, I would often catch him having conversations and laughing out loud to himself. I asked him whom he was talking to; he would either ignore me or try to explain himself in disjointed conversation, intermingling his explanation with other unrelated subjects. Noah’s hygiene was poor, and he abruptly cut all of his locs that he had been growing for years and suddenly dropped out of school without warning.
In early spring of this year, he was admitted back into the hospital, treated, and released with a new prescription and more follow-up outpatient therapy appointments. Two months later, a tragedy struck our family; I do not know what led to this devastating event, but to watch my once bright, happy, loving, warm son turn into a different person right before my eyes was heart-wrenching.
No matter what I did to support him, take him to doctor appointments, try to keep his creative outlet open and drag him out the house, I saw him spiral deeper and deeper down a dark hole. The person who loved animals, who was super creative and popular with his friends and classmates, became brooding, isolated, and more paranoid by the day.
Both of our lives have been turned upside down. I love my son deeply, and I feel overwhelming fear and worry for him and what the future might bring.
I am asking you to partner with me to help get the immediate funds and support he needs for a LAWYER, INDEPENDENT DOCTORS/EXAMS, and TREATMENT for the best outcome possible.
Thank you for your contribution, and please keep us in your prayers. And I will keep everyone updated on my son's progress.
Sincerely,
Crystal
