Hello! Our friend and colleague Noah has had a medical emergency in his immediate family. I want to respect his privacy, but know his newborn is well. As a result, Noah is committing more time at home to navigate these medical issues. As you may or may not know, employees under a year of employment are not eligible for FMLA. Update from Tracy Chapman (Noah’s wife):

Depression and anxiety have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. The waves of that struggle often ebb and flow, usually under the surface, but sometimes as a raging storm. My family and I are currently living through one of those storms. Though I have tempered and survived these storms in the past, I am now a mother. With the recent birth of our daughter, who joined her sweet big brother at home, I have realized that I can no longer face these storms alone.

I have chosen to enter into an intensive mental health treatment program for the next several weeks. For consistency and stability for our kids, my incredibly supportive husband has taken a personal leave of absence from his job as a nurse to care for our children while I receive psychiatric treatment. His presence at home is necessary for our family at this time. This, along with medical bills, has put us in a difficult financial situation and we find ourselves in need of help from others in our lives. Noah's work colleagues kindly created a gofundme to offer us support.

Asking for help is hard, feelings of shame can arise, though my children and Noah have given be a sense of purpose to dive into the depths of my mental illness, and resurface as a stronger and happier mother and wife.
