Context

Following the global pandemic COVID 19, Cape Verde closed its airspace in March 2020. There is still no forecast for re-opening and realistically speaking, the absence of tourism will last until the end of 2020, if not further.
The situation in Sal Island is dramatic.

Since April 2020, with your consistent contributions, we have been able to support 80 families with basic food and hygienic items. Each month we reach 371 people in difficulties, which include 44 babies (up to 4 years old) and 104 children (up to 12 years old). Almost 50% of our beneficiaries are young kids.

Further to this pandemic, the majority of the hotels, restaurants and shops remain closed.

Locals wonder the streets with no alternative but to ask for help to buy food. Although Cape Verde is a poor country, this type of behavior was never costumery amongst the population.


The initiative

NO TA JUNT is a private initiative guided by feelings of solidarity and love for the community of Santa Maria, emerged in April 2020, in collaboration with CODE CV - Cooperative for the Development of Cape Verde and Nôs Kaza Center – ICCA (Governmental Institution).

We have been distributing food, water and hygiene items to families located in Santa Maria, previously identified from the database of the above-mentioned partners. Due to this collaboration with Nôs Kaza Center – ICCA and CODE CV, we know in detail the background, needs and difficulties of the families we choose to support.

With the symbolic (but precious) amount of 20 euros, it is possible to support one family a month, as we were able to tailor the baskets according to the family’s needs.

For us to reach this goal we have also established collaboration relationship with different companies in the supply industry, thus reducing costs.

Contexto

Na sequência da pandemia global do COVID 19, Cabo Verde encerrou o seu espaço aéreo em Março de 2020.  Ainda nao ha previsoes de reabertura, e realisticamente a ausencia de turismo manter-se-a ate ao final do ano pelo menos.

A situação na Ilha do Sal é dramática.

Desde Abril 2020, com a sua ajuda constante, conseguimos apoiar, 80 famílias com alimentos básicos e produtos de higiene. Por mes conseguimos chegar a 371 pessoas em dificuldades nas quais se incluem 44 bebés (até 4 anos) e 104 crianças (até 12 anos). Quase 50% dos nossos benediciarios sao criancas.

Devido à pandemia, a maioria dos hotéis, lojas e restaurante estão fechados.

Os locais andam à deriva pelas ruas, sem alternativa sem ser pedir ajuda para comprar comida. Apesar de Cabo Verde ser um pais pobre, este tipo de comportamento nunca foi usual.

A Iniciativa

“NO TA JUNT” é uma iniciativa privada, criada com base no sentimento de solidariedade e amor pela comunidade de Santa Maria e surgiu no mês de Abril de 2020, em colaboração com as instituições de solidariedade: “CODE CV” - Cooperativa para o Desenvolvimento de Cabo Verde e o “Centro Nôs Kaza” – ICCA (Instituicao governamental).

Temos distribuído alimentos, água e artigos de higiene para as famílias de Santa Maria, identificadas atraves das instituicoes acima referidas. Devido a esta colaboracao com o Centro Nos Kasa-ICCA e a CODE CV conhecemos as situacoes das familias apoiadas, as suas necessidades e dificuldades.

Com uma contribuicao simbolica, mas preciosa de 20€, conseguimos apoiar uma família por um mês, já que conseguimos adequar as cestas às necessidades da família.

Para concretizar este objetivo, fizemos parcerias com diferentes provedores, reduzindo assim os custos considerados no inicio do movimento.
