Let's make sure Covid-19 doesn't cause anyone to die from lack of food.

I'm going to take the extra money that I just received from the government and give it to those who are struggling due to Covid-19. Please join me!

As a struggling college student I had worked a part-time job at a local gym to help with my living expenses. When Covid-19 hit, I, like many others, lost my job. Following the lead of my roommate, who had also lost her job, I decided to apply for unemployment benefits. I knew I wouldn't be eligible for a significant amount, but every little bit helps. Soon after applying, I received notice that I qualified to receive $66 per week, which seemed fair given that my employment was only part-time.

When I received my first disbursement I was shocked to see that my earned amount showed up not as $66, but as $666. I soon learned that everyone receiving unemployment benefits were also entitled to an extra $600, in order to "stimulate the economy," even if that amount was 10 times the amount that I was owed. Who came up with that formula? Stimulating the economy is a great thing, however how does me receiving an extra $600 help the millions of people out of work who possibly don't qualify for unemployment and are struggling to simply put food on their table?

While I realize that I can't change the world and help everyone, I decided to make my small contribution and help those that I can. I've decided to donate the extra $600 that I receive every pay period, to those who are struggling during this hard time.

As a student majoring in Nutrition, I realize the huge food insecurity problem that our country faces every day. Lack of proper nutrition kills over 9 million people a year, the majority of which are children. Now, with the onset of Covid-19 this problem has gotten even worse. The number of families that worry about where their next meal is coming from has reached unacceptable proportions.

100% of the contributions will go towards helping to put food on the tables of struggling families here in the Unites States. I have partnered with organizations such as Pandemic of Love and others to make sure all donations go directly to those in need.
