My name is Monique. I am a single mother to my daughter and have guardianship of my niece, who has special needs. My days are filled with doctor’s appointments for my niece and supporting my daughter’s busy middle school schedule, including her passion for tennis. Recently, I noticed my energy was too low to keep up with daily tasks. After a mammogram, several follow-up appointments, and a biopsy, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The news was overwhelming, especially since I support my family through delivery apps and don’t have the benefits that come with traditional employment. I have no one else to rely on during this time, and I’m deeply worried about how I’ll care for my family while I fight this disease.

My doctors have recommended a mastectomy, followed by a period of recovery, then radiation therapy. The next few months will be filled with medical appointments and treatments, making it impossible for me to work. My biggest concerns are covering rent, utilities, and transportation, and I want my daughter to continue her tennis lessons, which mean so much to her.

What keeps me going is my children. Providing a loving home and caring for them is my greatest motivation. I am the only person my children can count on, and that gives me the strength to keep fighting. I want to raise strong women and show them that they can get through anything. My daughter’s dedication to tennis inspires me, and I am proud of her passion and hard work.
