No mother or child should have to experience this!

I got a phone call, no one wants to receive.

On March 10, 2024, the phone rang, it was one of my best friends Shamanece (Shama) Thomas. Shama lives in Columbia, SC and we have been friends for over 18 years. She told me something no one wants to hear.

“There was a fire, the boys are safe, we lost everything but our lives.”

Shama is the mother of two sons, Malachi Thomas-Jones, 6 years old and Dontavis Jr., 1 year old. I was stunned, scared and heartbroken all at the same time; thankful they were ok and mad I couldn’t be there with them.

The Red Cross has set them up in a hotel for three days; we have no idea where or how she and the boys will be cared for when that hotel stay ends. Shama has no friends or family in the area.

I am raising money to keep her and the boys safe, fed and warm. Every penny we raise will go toward food, clothing and shelter for her and her sons.
