No more wonky wheels

Thank you for visiting our campaign page.   Please forgive the long story, but I believe the details are important so you know why we have chosen the Go Fund Me route.
Please meet my beautiful and precious niece, Dominique.  She is 24 years old and is like any other young woman – loves shopping, makeup, shopping FOR makeup, music, and Dancing with the Stars.  But Dominique was born with spina bifida (a condition where the bones in the vertebral column do not fully cover the spinal cord, leaving it exposed) and hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain).  Since the very moment she was born, she has had to endure some 52 surgical and medical procedures, and countless hospital stays.  She has met each of the procedures and surgeries with remarkable resilience and despite the situation, oftentimes with a smile.  However, every hospital stay has robbed her of just a little bit more mobility.  Dominique used a walker up until the time she was 12 years old.  However, after her longest hospital stay of 17 weeks, things changed.  As a result of experimenting with a new procedure to rectify ongoing issues with her shunt (used to remove the fluid from her brain), Dominique suffered seizures and lost her mobility.  Since then, Dominique has relied upon a wheelchair to get her around. The wheelchair that Dominique currently has is funded through Alberta Aids to Daily Living.  While we are appreciative of such funding, AADL will fund only the most basic of models.  Unfortunately, these basic models are not well made and require frequent repairs.  The spokes often come off, and sometimes even her front wheels (the small ones) have come off - apparently, not an uncommon problem with these basic model wheelchairs.  This has happened to her in public and has caused her some humiliation.  Also, despite the fact that the chair has been professionally fitted to Dominique by a physiotherapist, Dominique has developed carpal tunnel syndrome in her wrists and back pain due to wheeling herself around in such a heavy chair.  A motorized wheelchair is not something her parents want her to have as it is important that Dominique stay as active as possible. This is where I need your help.  I would dearly like to help Dominique get a lightweight wheelchair, but they are very expensive.  While there are organizations and charities that can help fund a wheelchair, they do not meet our needs (e.g., Easter Seals will fund only for motorized wheelchairs).  The wheelchair that Dominique is looking at is a high quality titanium wheelchair.  It will be lighter and easier for Dominique to wheel around in (so less stress on her), and require fewer repairs (the durability and quality of these wheelchairs is evident in the fact that it is very difficult to find a used one.)  Dominique will be able to go out in public without worrying that her chair will just randomly fall apart, or that she will suffer back pain for days after an outing.  To view the wheelchair Dominique is hoping to get, check out  https://permobil.ca/product/aero-x/.  Please help me make this a reality for Dominique.  Not only will the quality of her life be greatly improved, but it will give her a new peace of mind, and make her life just a little bit easier.  Every little bit counts and will be very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
