No More Weighting - Angel's Surgery

Welcome!

So often when you come to a ‘go fund me’ page you are reading about tragedy, hardship and someone in dire need due to a very negative heartbreaking situation.

This page, however, is in celebration of our friend Angel, who has lost 212 pounds of excess weight, and has made an incredible full body, mind and spirit transformation.

It is an opportunity for all of us to show her our support by assisting her in the final phases of this truly remarkable journey, by raising money for the reconstructive surgery she needs, so that she can remove the excess skin that is significantly holding her back.

The 30 pounds of loose skin on her body is not only a physical burden, requiring constant care and management, it is also a mental and emotional burden - acting as an ongoing reminder of pains from the past, and creating a constant fear of slipping back and regaining the weight. This surgery is yet another radical act of self love; A bold and brave way for her to burn the bridge back to how her body, mind, and life use to be! A way to set her free.

No more weighting - It’s time!

That said, this is a major surgery, and it is expensive. Although Angel and her family have been saving everything they can for it, she really needs some help to cover this high cost. There will also be a long recovery period, resulting in time off of work, and loss of income. We want to make sure that Angel and the kids will be well supported during this time, and with your help they will be.

We invite you to invest in Angel’s ongoing health and in her quality of life; Let’s Celebrate the changes she has made! Let’s honour her journey, and these transformations, by getting her this life-changing surgery - which is scheduled for November 27th, 2019!

Angel’s Journey

“I remember the first time I saw Angel sitting in that room with her arms folded across her chest, her head down, eyes closed, frozen in fear and weighing 400 pounds. She was terribly depressed, a huge billboard of what ‘suicidal’ looks like to the outside world. The first thought that I had was one of comfort, at how nice it was that I wasn’t the biggest person in the room. More so, I wasn’t close to that kind of misery and suffering, even though all of us where in that room for the same reason. We were all rape survivors, there together in a group to attempt recovery.”

You see, Angel began suffering from severe depression at the age of 12 years old. As a child and teenager, she experienced a wide variety of traumatic events, emotional neglect, as well as physical, emotional, mental, and sexual abuse. At 19 years old she developed Hashimoto’s disease, which led to her gaining 80 pounds in 6 months. Going from 160 pounds to 240.

Despite going through various therapies, trying all sorts of diets and lifestyle changes, Angel continued to gain weight. Although she made every attempt she could to work through the pain and traumas of her life, her body held on to it. Angel got up to 400 pounds - to the point of disability, where she was unable to move or function well, and was living in constant pain. She was a prisoner in her body, and was trapped in the pain of her depression.

Angel struggled to function, as a mother of three, a devoted caring spouse, and with the day-to-day life challenges that come to each of us. Only she was carrying so much more than most of us, in so many ways: mentally, emotionally and especially physically. Then, in 2016 after the birth of her youngest child, it happened - she reached the point of no return, chose a different path, and made some truly radical changes in all areas of her life!

And once she started OMG there was no turning back!!!

Angel stepped into her power, she stopped hiding and holding back. She found herself, and learned to radically love all parts. Not only did she lose the excess weight that she was carrying, she faced and released the trauma of her life - all of the abuse, all of the negativity, and all of the barriers that stopped her from being her true whole authentic self. Over the last 2 years, Angel completely changed her situation - going from disability, poverty, pain, and suffering to one of freedom, abundance, joy, and love - all while inspiring others along the way, showing that they too can do the same.

And inspire us she does!

The Reconstructive Surgery

Angel has lost 212 pounds of excess weight from her body. The physical change is mind-blowing. Unfortunately, she is left with a tremendous amount of excess skin which limits her mobility and will create ongoing medical problems if not removed.

Angel is now ready to undergo the final stages of this transformation, and to bring a close to this chapter in her life by getting the reconstructive surgery necessary to have her body be in a total state of health now.

We are so very proud of her, and want to raise funds for the reconstructive surgery of her abdomen, so that the 30 pounds of skin can be removed safely.

Her surgery is scheduled for November 27th, 2019, in Tijuana Mexico. She will be getting the surgery done by Dr. Omar Lazos, a board certified reconstructive surgeon who specializes in caring for massive weight loss patients.

Angel will be leaving Calgary for the surgery on November 25th, and will return on December 4th. She will need someone to accompany her, as it is a very invasive surgery, with a challenging recovery. Angel will be off work for 4-6 weeks, and will be wearing compression garments for 3 months afterwards. Full recovery takes 3-6 months.

All money raised will go towards the cost of surgery (360 belt lipectomy & body lift, breast reconstruction & torsoplasty), travel (flights), medical items (compression garments), accommodations, and loss of income.

Please allow us to be very clear in stating that this surgery is medically necessary, and is not elective. Having an excess of 30 pounds of loose skin can become very dangerous if infection sets in that skin, which is very possible with that kind of abundance of it. The reconstruction of her whole torso is needed. It’s a beautiful benefit as well that she will get to have a more pleasant appearance afterwards, but that is hardly the reason behind this surgery. This is about physical and mental health, and her quality of life.

A message from Angel’s Family & Friends:
----
“I have been Angel’s life partner for eighteen years. In this time we have been through incredible highs and lows. We have three unique and wonderful children together.

I was with her when she was diagnosed with Hashimoto disorder, and she gained most of her weight in a short time span. I stood beside her in her darkest years as she struggled with mental illnesses, resulting in disability and poverty.

Angel used her weight as armour, to shield herself from the world and to protect herself from her own emotions. She lived like that for a long time. Until one day she mustered the courage to attend a cuddle party. There she met her tribe. She Learned how to finally embrace herself as the beautiful being we all already saw her as. She blossomed into her true power, having finally shed the traumas of her past.

After years of intense work on herself within the tantric community she was finally ready. Ready to shed her excess weight and all the pain her body had been holding onto.

She decided to go through with gastric bypass surgery. After twelve weeks of dedicating herself to a gruelling liquid diet she was cleared for surgery. The doctors were impressed with her progress and her commitment to herself and her health. After another two months of recovery from the surgery she hit the ground running, and started exercising daily. She lost over two hundred pounds in a year.

Along with the weight, she lost so much of what was holding her back. All the pain lifted and she found not only the strength to heal herself, but others as well. She has since been working towards fulfilling her life’s purpose. Teaching others through tantric practices to love themselves and shed their own pains. I have seen her teachings inspire so many people to work towards stepping into their own power. She has created so much joy and love in the lives of her family and friends. Now all that’s left for her to be rid of all her weight is this reconstructive surgery.

As her partner I am excited to see her become who she truly is. As well as see her live a long and bountiful life without severe excess skin complications. This surgery is a medically necessary surgery for so many reasons.

I hope you can find it in your heart to help her fund this life changing surgery.

All my love,
Angela’s life partner,
José.”

It truly has been a remarkable experience to witness the release of the body fat that she has held for all these years. More so though, the spirit/mind transformation that she has undergone is like a miracle. Thanks to this transformation, she now offers thousands of people inspiration through her work as a Life & Relationship Coach, as a Community Builder, and a Workshop facilitator. Truly, what causes her to be such a gift to humanity is her angelic spirit, and how she lives up to her name of being an actual earth Angel for us all to be blessed by.

She deserves to have all of the assistance and help that we can offer her. With what she offers back to us all, it’s the least bit of gratitude we can offer her for being an amazing example and inspiration. We are in such great gratitude to know such a remarkable woman, and are grateful for the opportunity to give her all of the love and support she needs, as she takes this final step of her journey in transforming her physical body.

In spirit, Angel will still always be the ‘biggest’ person in the room. She really does shine. Few of us have been able to accomplish in our lives what she has, in such a short time. She is a true gift to humanity, and to our community.

We welcome all those that are inspired to do so to please give generously to assist her in this last step of physical recovery and transformation.

We, her friends and family, thank you kindly for your love and support.

THANK YOU.

A message to you, from Angel

This journey has been incredible so far, and I am blown away by the support everyone is offering here. Thank you so so so much. ♥️

The transformation I have experienced in the last 2 years is beyond anything I could have imagined, and I am so excited for this next phase of my journey.

My life’s work is to support people in living meaningful, love-filled and empowered lives; To help others in creating a life and the relationships they want, and to encourage people in pursuing what is most important to them.

I have reached a place in life where I now know what it means to love yourself so much that you feel worthy of what you want, what it looks like to say “yes” to yourself and what you need, and I very consciously and intentionally work to inspire people to act from this place every single day.

For me, this surgery isn’t about thinness or beauty. It’s not about vanity or even comfort. It’s an investment in my health and my overall well-being. An investment in who I want to be, and how I want to live. It’s about closing a chapter in my life that brought me a lot of pain, suffering, and disability. Celebrating how far I have come, and welcoming in the next chapter of my life!

I am 36 years old and I have 3 children. I am looking forward to a long and healthy life, so I am ready to move on from the past. I am ready to release the chains that held me back. And for me, this includes the excess skin on my body. It doesn’t reflect who I am now, and I want nothing more than to be me.

I want to be proactive, and prevent the health problems and limitations that will eventually come as a result of having this much excess skin. Time will wear on my body, and this skin will only get worse with age. It’s best for me to remove the skin now while I am young and healthy enough for this very intense surgery. I don’t want to wait until things get worse.

Because it is important to me that I live what I teach, I am here now asking you for your help. After years of practice, I'd like to think that I am good at asking for what I want and need, but this is by far the most vulnerable request I have ever made!

I know that not everyone will understand. There is a stigma around obesity and mental illness. Some people may think that this is something I should pay for by myself, without help from others. I am saving everything I can towards it - but I don’t want to have to do it alone. I don’t want anyone to have to do things like this alone. I would love to see people rallying in support of others, and I am willing to ask for that. I am willing to feel worthy of that kind of love and support. If for no other reason than to show you that it’s okay to do so. To offer you permission to do the same.

So - I am calling on you - my friends, family, and tribe, people from communities all over the world, everyone who has been touched by me in some way, or who is inspired by me now - I am asking for your love and support, of me and my journey, as I move into the next phase of my life.

And thank you - thank you all, for being there for me through this. I deeply appreciate your generous spirit, and the ways in which you are contributing to my growth, and my overall health and well being. Thank you for helping my kids, my partner, and my community, in this way. I am so incredibly grateful for this opportunity to better myself, so that I can continue to be of service to others and offer myself fully to the world. ♥️
