Here in Montana, some monumental decisions are about to be made regarding our energy and climate future. Our state’s largest utility, Northwestern Energy, is required to submit a Procurement Plan and obtain approval before building new generators . The new Plan they just submitted emphasizes coal and gas (methane) and dismisses renewables as not meeting their needs. This is unacceptable!
We have until May 4th to get thousands of Montana residents to tell Northwestern Energy that their Plan is incompatible with a livable planet for future generations. We believe that only a large volume of comments will force them to do the hard and essential work of planning for a renewable future.
The Plan – Run an Advertising Campaign
We have a professionally created video for TV ads that we plan to run in major Montana markets over the next few weeks. Time is short, with the comments due by May 4th. The ad (viewable above) directs people to www.350montana.org to submit comments.
Blanketing the market will cost $40,000 but we don’t need to raise all of that here.
We have set a goal to raise $10,000 here on Gofundme so we can begin to run ads in the markets we think will generate the most comments.
We may also run online ads, which should lead to a higher click to conversion rate.
The Impact of this Fundraising Campaign
It’s critical that Northwestern Energy hear from residents across Montana that their Plan is incompatible with the clean energy future that the majority of Montanans desire. This ad campaign will let people know that they have a voice in our state’s energy future. With abundant wind and solar energy potential, now is not the time to invest in coal and fracked gas!
350 Montana is putting in $7,500, cleaning out our treasury along with some extra contributions from members of our Leadership Team. We are continuing to fundraise locally. We also have a couple of big grants about which we have heard encouraging comments but no final decisions. We expect word on these grants this week.
If we fall a little short, we can still make a big impact.
