I'm Jon Klaybor (KK4JJK), and I’m a newly licensed ham as of May 2025; I was fortunate to be mentored by Jeff Ambroz, KD2PQP, when I was first introduced to the Western District Traffic Net. Jeff was among those who welcomed me into the world of amateur radio and taught me the importance of service, reliability, and community. His dedication to the National Traffic System and our local nets has inspired me to carry forward the same spirit of helping others.

Jeffrey Ambroz, KD2PQP, is more than just a familiar call sign — he’s a cornerstone of our ham community. This year, he stepped up to organize the ROC CITY NET Hamfest in honor of silent key K2ZX, ensuring that a beloved tradition lived on. Beyond hamfests, Jeffrey is a vital part of the National Traffic System and the Western District Traffic Net, relaying crucial communications that keep information flowing during emergencies when other systems fail.

Now Jeffrey and his mother are facing a crisis of their own. In early December, their furnace was red-tagged by the gas company—beyond repair and shut down permanently. With Rochester’s temperatures dropping into the low teens, they’re surviving on borrowed electric space heaters, but that’s no substitute for a safe, working furnace.

This is where the ham community shines. We spend thousands on radios, antennas, and gear—but when one of our own is in need, we can rally together to make a real difference. Jeffrey has given his time and energy to keep our nets and hamfests alive; now it’s our turn to give back.
