No Evictions at Belle Park

Help Belle Park residents stay in Belle Park until everyone is housed! No evictions until safe, affordable housing is provided.
After speaking with Nathan and a few other Belle Park residents, it has come to our attention that the City of Kingston plans to evict Belle Park residents by the end of July with no plans in place to house everyone. Power and water will be shut off in that area to force people to move out.
The immediate ask from the community is wood to build box-like structures that can fit 7-9 people. Nathan has already built one using scrap wood. According to the community, this may result in the city letting them stay for longer as these structures will make it harder for the city to come and evict them by brute force, to which the city will resort.
It may also enable them to move further into Belle Park and become less visible, which could allow them to stay there for longer. It takes about one day to build each structure and to shelter everyone; we will need to make four more. Here are the supplies required for each.
24-28 2x6 boards
Eight 4x8 plywood
100 3 ½ inch nails
It will cost about $350 per shelter. However, we are also trying to collect scrap wood from demolition sites to offset this cost.
Let's do our best to listen and respond to the needs of the community. We cannot let the city erase this encampment with no plans in place, especially when the residents have finally had the opportunity to heal and become healthier. If circumstances change and residents are evicted before we can raise enough money for the supplies, the funds will be distributed to the community to meet their needs.
After the money is raised, I will head back to speak with the community to make sure this request is still what they need. If there are alternative requests that are more pressing, the money will be used for that instead.
