Help a tzaddik!

י' מנחם אב תשפ'''ג

Hello. My name is Aasher* and I have lived in Queens, New York, for the last fifty years. I am embarrassed to be writing this plea for money, but I am about to lose the house I have resided in with my family for over a quarter century.

Nearly a year ago I was summoned by the VHQ Bais Din to a Din Torah, and with Siyata Dishmaya the Bais Din has finally issued its psak in Tammuz. If I cannot, by the end of Ellul 5783, prove that I have the financial backing in place to assume full ownership of my home, the psak necessitates I put my home up for sale.

After nearly three decades of marriage and having the good fortune to be able to put my dear children through yeshiva, and B"H being able to marry them all off as well, and now with legal bills as a result of the Din Torah nearing the $100,000 mark, my current financial situation will not allow me to take out a mortgage any bigger than I already have.

Sure, I could have easily gone to the secular courts, but as a Yorei Shomayim I allowed the Bais Din to settle the financial matters at hand. Don't get me wrong - the settlement was fair and I believe it is all B'yidei Shomayim. However, the Bais Din allowed no room for other financial arrangements for my home.

Now I face the grim reality that I may lose my house in just over six weeks from now, unless I can make a big dent in the impending bills. Bais Din has provided me a letter of tzidkus - they say I am a tzaddik for agreeing to have the Bais Din settle the issues, but while tzidkus helps me in Olam Habah, I still need to do my hishtadlus in Olam Hazeh.

I don't consider myself any more worthy than the many Yiddishe families who can't afford to own a home and pay timely mortgage payments, but if I am forced to sell this house, I will not find another home in the neighborhood for a comparable price that I could qualify for a mortgage. With home prices skyrocketing, waiting for the housing market to come down does not seem like a great financial decision. I simply don't have the assets right now to continue living in my home.

I don't live lavishly and save where I can. I don't drive a fancy vehicle. In fact, my car is older than some of my children! I just want to be able to have my children around my Shabbos table, and that could not be possible if I downsized.

Any donation is greatly appreciated, $100, $50, $18, $5, even just $1. Please help me with any amount you can.
