Hi, I am Chas Moore, a citizen of Rutledge, GA. In a volunteer effort with Our Communities, I am a Spokesperson for Morgan Land, Sky, and Water Preservation, Inc. I offered Morgan Land, Sky, and Water Preservation, Inc assistance in fundraising by setting up this GoFundMe Campaign. Morgan Land, Sky, and Water Preservation Inc. is raising funds to assist local citizens of Morgan, Newton, Jasper, and Walton to organize, manage, and hire legal representation to protect the interest of our citizens zoning rights, specifically from the development of a Rivian Assembly Plant. Rivian wants to build a 20 MILLION square foot electric-truck/auto assembly plant housing 7,500 to 10,000 employees in Morgan & Walton Counties immediately adjacent to Newton County that will forever destroy our natural environment and rural life. Rivian has already gotten options through the Joint Development Authority on thousands of acres of rural land just outside our small towns of Madison, Rutledge, and Social Circle and is applying to rezone for industrial use. Local Development Authorities would likely have failed in re-zoning efforts in Morgan County, so the State of Georgia commandeered the project per “local Officals request for help”. The State of Georgia, The Joint Development Authority, and Rivian are negligent in failing to perform local economic and environmental studies that will affect our water resources, wildlife, and much more before rezoning in order to circumvent environmental, zoning, and taxing constraints until it is too late to object. They say the reason is that it will "create financial hardship for the applicant." Help save our rural life! Make your views known immediately! Act now! Say NO to Rivian! AGAIN, this is our community, thank you for helping us to protect it and we are yet again, fighting the State in allowing private corporations to bypass local zoning and planning effectively using "economic development" as a new eminent domain standard. We disagree!! SECTION II.
HOME RULE FOR COUNTIES AND MUNICIPALITIES
Paragraph IV. Planning and zoning. The governing authority of each county and of each municipality may adopt plans and may exercise the power of zoning. This authorization shall not prohibit the General Assembly from enacting general laws establishing procedures for the exercise of such power. Please help us maintain the integrity of the Georgia Constitution.
