Help Gwen with her medical bills
Donation protected
I'm Gwen's Uncle Jimmie. On November 8th Gwen was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). I'm looking to raise financial support and other fundraising ideas to help ease the mounting hospital/treatment bills for Gwen and my sister Jessica. Below is my sister's initial Facebook post after we learned about Gwen's diagnosis. Please remember Gwen in your prayers; any way you could support her would be greatly appreciated. Team Gwen's motto and verse: #BuiltHovorkaTough - "Be Strong and Courageous...for the Lord your God will be with you..." Joshua 1:9
Update Spring 2023 - She is currently under the care of the great staff at Children’s Hospital which has included many intense inpatient chemo treatments in addition to her at home treatments (ahead of her is a three-year treatment plan to remission). Even though this will be a long road and Gwen was unable to finish her collegiate senior softball season or graduate this spring, she continues to stay strong and positive. Gwen and her family would like to thank you for all the support and encouragement that you have and will continue to provide. She is proof that she is Built Hovorka Tough!
"This is the hardest news I’ve ever or will ever have to share…in a matter of the last 7 days, our lives have changed forever! It is a long story that we are still trying to wrap our minds around. My oldest daughter, Gwen (who is only 22yrs old) has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) which is extremely aggressive. In fact, to demonstrate the timeline of fast this is…Gwen wasn’t feeling well on Monday last week, went to the doctor that night, they found her extremely high white blood cell counts, I put her on a plane Tuesday afternoon, went right from the airport to the hospital as she needed to be admitted, diagnosed Wednesday morning, we only had 12hrs to mull over the treatment and by Thursday morning she started her Chemo treatment!
She is receiving an extremely aggressive Chemo treatment that requires her to be in the hospital for at least a month. As you can imagine, this will clear out her healthy bone marrow and white blood cells leaving her to start from scratch on rebuilding an immune system. But we love, love, love the good news that follows this…this treatment will give her a 90% chance of successful remission!
So a week later, and my Gwen is responding really well to the treatments, she’s eating and in overall good spirits! The nurses really understand why she is my golden retriever but they love her (especially since she is close to their age).
The biggest thing we ask of everyone is prayer! Thank you all for your support, encouragement, prayers and of course love!"
