Friends of Matthew

So many of you have reached out with prayers, well wishes and a desire to support Matthew in the aftermath of his cardiac arrest & subsequent anoxic brain injury. In that spirit, we have created this GoFundMe account.

In the early morning hours of Monday, October 31, 2022, Christy & Bob were awakened by a police officer at their home informing them that their son Matthew had been involved in a medical emergency in New York. Matthew had gone into cardiac arrest following an intense weekend of dance instruction and rehearsals. Thankfully, CPR was instituted immediately by a friend of Matthews and EMS arrived about 10 minutes later. They were able to get his heart started again with a defibrillator and rushed him to the hospital. Due to not having a heartbeat for over 10 minutes, they put Matthew into an induced coma for 48 hours hoping to preserve and protect his brain. After 3 long weeks in the hospital in New York City and many trips back and forth for Christy & Bob, Matthew is back home in Cedar Park, TX receiving out-patient therapy at the Center for Neuro Skills in Lakeway, TX. He will be in rehab for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

At this point, and for the very near future, due to Matt’s anoxic brain injury he will be unable to work, drive or live on his own. Matthew requires constant supervision until he is fully recovered. For this reason, Christy has taken leave from her position at His Kids Preschool.

Matthew is in the very best hands with his doctors and therapists. We have no doubt that he will fully recover and get back to dancing in NYC, but it will take time.

Due to mounting hospital bills, loss of income, and future expenses still unknown, we have created this Go Fund Me to lighten the load on the Kennedy family as Matthew continues to recover.
