Olive has a tumor on her lower jaw. After initially having it biopsied over a year ago by my vet, I was told that it was cancerous and most likely not removable or curable.

The tumor didn't really bother Olive for a long time. She still ate, played, chewed on toys, and acted totally normal. Since my vet lead me to believe there was nothing to be done, I figured as long as she is happy and comfortable, let her be. Let her spend her remaining time just having fun and being spoiled.

In the last few months, however, the mass has been growing, and it has been bleeding quite a bit when she bumps or scratches it.

So I recently took her to a specialist who, after reviewing her biopsy results and examining her, told me that her tumor is benign. Although it is cancer, it is not the type to spread throughout her body, and since it hasn't spread deep into her bone, it is removable and curable.

They will have to do a partial mandibulectomy, meaning they will remove a portion of her lower jaw. But they have assured me (and I've done a lot of my own research) that dogs do very well and live a happy life after this procedure. And I know my girl is strong and resilient and can adapt to anything.
