Last Friday our friend, Kelly Dickson, was involved in a car crash while traveling through Joplin, MO. Her vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer which failed to yield in stopped traffic. She was immediately transported to Mercy Hospital -Joplin and is in stable condition. Thankfully, she was traveling alone and her two young sons were with their father.
Kelly is being treated at Mercy for a T6 compression fracture, partially collapsed lung, several broken ribs, & concussion/brain swelling with altered mental status. She is becoming more aware gradually day by day as the swelling decreases. She will spend several days in ICU and then we expect her to be transferred back to Northwest Arkansas for required rehabilitation and continued physical therapy.
Due to COVID-19 and Mercy ICU protocol, she has only been able to see two of her sisters who are traveling to Joplin daily to be there during the brief moments when Kelly is awake. Though she is progressing, she is still mostly sleeping while her body tries to heal.
Kelly is an amazing person who spreads joy anywhere she goes. She has friends all over the world that are coming together to help and have asked for ways to financially offset what will be a large amount of expenses until she is able to return to work.
Thank you all in advance for your prayers and support for Kelly! This community has been wonderful in lifting them up and we will continue to help them move forward with healing.
Kelly’s family would like to say a very special thank you to Trooper Drum badge #482 with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for his quick response & especially for staying with Kelly until she was released into the ER. He holds a special place in our hearts.
