When my sister first met her neighbor, it seemed like the start of a beautiful love story. He was kind, attentive, and made her feel truly seen. No one could have imagined that two years later, she would be fighting for her safety, her freedom, and her future.
Like many abusive relationships, it started small. He isolated her from friends and family. He controlled her time. He flooded her with grand gestures that felt romantic, not frightening. Each time she tried to pull away, he pulled her back in. We moved her to a new apartment just so she could feel safe. But he followed her there too.
The harassment never stopped. He followed her. Stalked her. Created new phone numbers every time she blocked him. He showed up at her job, her gym—her safe spaces. And like so many victims, she struggled to see how dangerous it had become. Abusers don’t just hurt you—they manipulate your reality so you don't see how entrenched you are until it's too late.
In February, when she confronted him after he stole from her, he called the police and had her charged. One moment of desperation after more than a year of fear and harassment, and he used the system against her. Since then, she has been fighting for her freedom in both civil and criminal court. On October 24th of this year, she blocked him again.
And that’s when everything escalated.
He stole her phone and used it to access her accounts. He tried to make purchases in her name. He used her Ring camera to speak to her through her own doorbell when all known numbers and emails had been blocked. He came back over and over again, leaving messages and creating new phone numbers to contact her. Neighbors admitted to seeing his car prowling the parking lot for days on end at all hours of the day and night.
And on Monday, October 27th, he broke into her apartment. While she was taking her dogs outside, he stole her keys, Apple Watch and cell phone. As she returned up the stairs, the camera caught him taunting her with her own keys. On the Ring footage, you hear her saying, “You need to leave. Give me my keys.” I don’t know if he said anything in response. You couldn’t hear anything above her gut-wrenching scream as he attacked her, throwing her down a flight of concrete stairs.
I don't know if I'll ever be able to forget sounds she made as she gasped for breath, still screaming, at the bottom of the stairs. It kills me knowing that those could've been her last moments. Afraid and alone at his hands.
We are terrified. We are exhausted. And we are running out of resources.
My sister needs immediate relocation, legal representation, security upgrades, and help repairing the damage this man has done to her life. We never imagined having to ask for help like this, but we are doing everything we can to protect her before something even worse happens.
If you are able to donate—whether it’s five dollars or fifty—you will be helping save a woman who is desperately trying to survive and rebuild her life. Every contribution goes toward:
✅ Immediate relocation and safe housing
✅ Legal fees for civil and criminal proceedings
✅ Security measures to keep him from finding or contacting her again
✅ Recovery from what has become a living nightmare
If all you can do is share this story, that alone means more than you know. After all her relocation and legal expenses so far, she’s already lost approximately $15,000. In this economy, this is a devastating blow for a single nurse seeking safety.
No family should have to watch someone they love suffer at the hands of another. Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring. And thank you for helping us give my sister the chance to live a life free of fear.
