My name is Alex Couri, and I live in Los Angeles, California. Over the past decade, I have spent significant time in Jamaica and have close, long-standing relationships with several families in Westmoreland and Hanover. This fundraiser is to support those specific families, whose homes and livelihoods were severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa.
Every dollar raised will go directly to them and will be used for:
• food and clean drinking water
• building materials and repairs
• fuel and transportation
• medical needs
• temporary shelter supplies
• other essential items required for daily living and recovery
Since the hurricane hit three weeks ago, I have received heartbreaking photos and videos from friends showing the devastation across their communities. The video on this page was created from the images they sent, so you can see firsthand what they are experiencing. Many homes have been severely damaged, roads washed out, and families are still without water, power, and access to basic resources. Cell service has only recently begun to return.
Although many relief organizations are working across Jamaica, none of the families I am connected with have received support yet. The hardest-hit rural areas have been among the last to get aid, leaving people to rely on neighbors and whatever small help can reach them right now.
If you are able to give, please know that any amount will make a direct and immediate difference. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is deeply appreciated.
Thank you for helping support these families during an incredibly difficult time.
