Hi. First of all we are so appreciative of everyone’s thoughtful messages and thinking of us at this time.

For those who dont know, early Monday morning my dad suffered a massive heart attack resulting in cardiac arrest. My mom woke up and knew she had to start CPR, which the doctors have said saved his life. He is currently on a ventilator to breathe for him, the biggest concern they have at this time is his brain function. He was down for a good period of time without oxygen, which can cause damage to the brain. He had 2 CTs which showed no serious damage and he’s being constantly monitored on a brain wave machine. He is under heavy sedation and the goal is to try to get him to wake up to check what neurological function was damaged. Depending on the outcome, they will then take him for the procedure to fix what they can in his heart.

I am reaching out because both of my parents are self-employed, meaning they don’t qualify for FMLA and some other state programs. When my dad wakes up, he still has a long road ahead of him. He will need to get moved to a rehab facility where he will get physical therapy to regain his strength. We were transported to Upstate Medical hospital in Syracuse, and I want to make sure my mom doesn’t have to worry about how they’re going to afford the long stay, food, and pay their bills back home in Massena.
