Brent is 38 years young, and the husband of my sweet sister and amazing nieces and nephew who are age 10, 7 and 6. He was diagnosed with stage 4 Leiomyosarcoma cancer that has spread to his lungs, liver and stomach lining. The tumor pressing against his liver has cut off his inferior vena cava and is 17cm in size. The Cancer is extremely rare and the prognosis is terminal. Brent and Becky don't really ask the doctors for a time frame. They just live each day to it's fullest. They no longer take their time together for granted. Brent remains extremely upbeat and he is determined to fight and enjoy each day. He recently traveled to Cancer Treatment Centers of America. He's also gone to MD Anderson. They weren't able to provide any alternative to the care that his doctors here in Kentucky are providing. He has numerous prescriptions and starting this month he will begin paying a monthly rate of approximately $750. 00 to continue the insurance that he's had.
This has been very hard on my sister. She cut her hours to part-time which was manageable. However, recently she's had to go back to work full time. This has been extremely stressful for both her and Brent. The children need her at home, and she wants to be home to support Brent as well.
I hate that they're stressed out about their finances rather than being able to focus more on spending time together.
For those of you that have had the pleasure of getting to know Brent over the years, you know that he is one-of-a-kind. He is generous and kind-hearted. He's an awesome father and always puts Becky and their kids ahead of everything else. If you were to ask him what he enjoys most, he would say: time with his family. He is a special person with an upbeat attitude and a ton of energy. Even though the chemo has taken its toll, he pushes himself each and every day to do what he can to help Becky and find fun, memorable ways to entertain and play with the kids. Brent has many friends and family supporting him with their prayers, but he needs our help now more than ever. The cost of ongoing treatment is going to be a tremendous financial burden for Brent and his family, so any financial donations are greatly appreciated.
