Help the Helper

On July 3rd, 2022, Walter “Wally” Shaw was in a serious accident while setting up a firework display in North Andover, MA. We want to take a minute to share who Wally is, what he is going through, and also how we hope to help Wally navigate what will be a very difficult and lengthy recovery.

Wally is an incredibly hard-worker, family-oriented, selfless and kind. Wally is also an adventure seeker, a cat lover, and an old soul. Wally works full-time at the Groton (MA) Fire Department and is a valued member of Local 4879. He also works as a Firefighter at the Harvard Fire Department, helping at his parents’ shop (Toreku Tractor & Equipment Inc), and as a federally certified pyrotechnician for Atlas. Wally currently lives in Townsend, MA, but he grew up in Harvard.

While Wally was setting up a professional firework display, the rack that Wally was loading inadvertently ignited. This resulted in serious, but non-life-threatening injuries to Wally’s upper body. Wally was flown to a Boston hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries, and it is likely additional surgeries will be necessary before Wally starts his lengthy recovery and rehabilitation. It is expected that Wally will be out of work from all 4 jobs, for an extended period of time.

We are still unsure of all of the obstacles Wally will face, but we would like to ease any stress for a guy who would help anyone in need, without question at a moment’s notice. All donations will directly support Wally’s recovery. Any contribution, however large or small, one time or recurring, is very much appreciated!
