Growing The Hunt Family
Donation protected
As many of you know, Kevin was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. He was unusually young to be diagnosed with multiple myeloma (which usually strikes between ages 55-65), but God brought an amazing doctor into his life. Dr. Rafat Abonour is a world-renowned Multiple Myeloma expert and under his care Kevin had a bone marrow transplant. He has been in complete remission for 11 years now. We are so incredibly grateful that God healed Kevin from this disease, and he is strong and healthy now. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy that eradicated his cancer also ended his sperm production, so we are grateful that he had sperm preserved prior to his treatment. However, that has greatly complicated our journey to grow our family. We were blessed to conceive Tyler quickly through IUI (artificial insemination), and he is an absolutely amazing child!! Unfortunately, we have not been successful in multiple subsequent attempts since that time. This year we eventually underwent IVF (in vitro fertilization), but our hearts were broken when we suffered a miscarriage. The good news is that there are several things that can be done differently going forward. We have consulted with two doctors and both think we have a good chance of being successful in another IVF attempt. The bad news is that since we have no insurance coverage for fertility-related treatment and have paid everything out of pocket so far, we cannot pursue another IVF on our own. And at our age, time is of the essence...
We deeply desire to have more children and provide Tyler with a sibling. I have picked up extra shifts and Kevin has been doing more teaching, but the cost of another IVF is beyond our reach at this point. It feels really awkward to reach out to friends and family to ask for help in our endeavor, but we also know so many have asked how they can help and some have said they would like to help but feel the small amount they could contribute wouldn’t do much. However, we know that small amounts added together become large amounts. So, we have decided to present this to our friends and family believing that if many of them were willing and able to give a small amount, we could have a good chance to proceed in September.
I know there are some who will say, “Why don’t you just adopt? There are many kids out there who need good families.” Oh, if only it were that simple. We have spent many hours diligently and earnestly seeking God’s will for our lives in this area… whether it is through one more attempt at IVF, embryo adoption, or traditional adoption. We have sought the counsel of wise friends, investigated our options and the cost associated with each, and at this time we feel God is leading us to pursue IVF. We don’t know what the future holds, but we are looking to God for guidance each step of the way and waiting to see how he will grow our little family. Please know that while monetary support helps us reach our goal of pursuing IVF your prayers are even more important to us. Thank you so much for reading and sharing our story and for praying for us. We are humbled by the love of our friends and family.
Humbly,
Hillary and Kevin
“Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. He made the storms be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and He brought them to their desired haven.” Psalm 107:28-30
