Evie's Emergency

Hello Evie Fans!

I've created this page to help a girl many of us know and love, Evie Wolfe. Evie belongs to Katie, and when I first saw her, I immediately fell in love with her sweet, spirited personality.

Recently, I learned that Evie was very ill. Thankfully, Katie was committed to provide her with the best veterinary care. After being  treated in Austin and then at Texas A&M's small animal hospital, I'm thrilled to tell you that after almost two scary weeks, Evie is now back at home with her best friend, Katie!

Having experienced a pet health issue earlier this year with my own best friend, Cosby Sweater, I knew that Evie's vet bills must be significant, and unfortunately, I was right. I reached out to Katie to offer to help while she focuses on her most important priority, helping her girl continue to get better. Please read Katie and Evie's story below.

Evie's vet bills totaled $13,000. If you love Evie as I do, or if you love animals in general, please consider making a donation or sharing this story with others. Any support will help, and is greatly appreciated.

"On November 13th (A Friday, for our superstitious friends), Evie was hospitalized with Pancreatitis -inflammation of the pancreas - and secondary Aspiration Pneumonia.  If biology also isn't your strength, the pancreas is super important.  It aids in digestion and produce insulin. It's hard to say exactly what caused it, but most likely it was a beloved "chewy" (rawhide).

She was in the capable hands of the staff at Austin Vet Care for the first 8 days.  They worked night and day to manage her pain, keep her comfortable, and encourage her to eat.  After 8 days of IV fluids, antibiotics and anti-nausea meds, she still wasn't progressing as they'd hoped and was referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Texas A&M University in College Station.  Through it all, Evie has maintained her steady, sweet demeanor, making it easy for her caregivers to help her get better.  A few days ago she started running to the end of her leash to chase a squirrel, and ask for belly rubs.  She even tried to dig a hole on a walk!

I cannot describe how much it hurt to not be able to touch Evie because it would make her regurgitate, not be able to hug her because it made her groan in pain or lay in bed at night wondering if she would still be alive in the morning.

Thanks to some emergency funds and the support of my family, I've been able to ensure she gets the care she needs.  However, the cost has become so significant that it was hard to decline Heather Beck's offer to reach out for help.  I hope you'll remember Evie in your spiritual and reflective practices or consider contributing to the cost of her care. You know as well as I do that she is worth every penny.

Evie was able to come home on November 25. She has begun eating again, and is enjoying resting comfortably in her own bed while demanding to be hand-fed. The Great Pancreas Incident of 2015 has been quite a ride! I've learned so much about canine internal medicine (did you know there's a difference between regurgitation and vomit?), the incredible strength of Evie, and my capacity for unconditional love."

Thank you,
Katie and Evie
