A Canine for Kaitlyn

Donation protected
My 14 year old daughter, Kaitlyn, struggles with acute social anxiety disorder, an overwhelming chronic anxiety that has caused her to miss out on the typical life of a child.  Activities such as, birthday parties, sleep overs, play dates, going to church and even family get-together's terrify her.  Just going to school causes Kaitlyn extreme distress because she is so uncomfortable with the large amount of people, the noise level and different activities going on aound her.

I have had to adjust Kaitlyn's school attendance to half a day because her anxiety is so severe that she, very recently, had to be hospitalized for her own safety.  Kaitlyn has been in therapy for many years, has been taught dozens of calming techniques and tried several medications to ease her anxiety.

Kaitlyn's doctors recommend a psychiatric service dog that will provide Kaitlyn with emotional and social support along with her medication and calming techniques.  Due to the specialized training of a service dog, there is a significant cost involved to get a dog.

It is heartbreaking to watch Kaitlyn struggle with wanting to do all of the things that people are doing so easily everyday but being absolutly terrified to join in.  Kaitlyn is an amazing young woman. I wish everyone could experience her loving, caring, kind, creative and funny personality.  My hope is that a therapy dog will allow her to explore life outside of her current and very small, comfort zone
