Connected By is a charity located in North Fremantle, Western Australia. At Connected By we support people who have suffered trauma to reconnected to community through meaningful engagement and creative pursuits. We believe that by supporting individuals to become healthier and happier we support families and it is our families that make our communities stronger.
We would like your help to help us facilitate the new programs we've been working on, new opportunities for people to come together to learn and grow in creative ways.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.
It is evident that some careers are harder on the heart and mind than others, and when presented with traumatic events as part of a career the repercussions on self family and community can be many. Mental wellness may be a personal journey but it is a community that can provide the resources and opportunity to stand by someone on the path.
Our name Connected By comes from the quote, "We are not separated by land, we are connected by water." In one way or another we are all connected.
Our clients primarily come from the Australian Defence Force and first responder communities but our doors are open to everyone. We support people to re-engage with passion and purpose. At Connected By we provide opportunities for people to move forward in creative ways.
The foundational ethos of Connected By is No Past, No Pain, No Position. This ethos allows us to create a replicable environment for our customers to focus on their creative process and to accept others at face value, which in turn allows the opportunity for connection through shared interests and goals. Our job is to provide our customers with a reliable safe space that provides opportunities to grow and learn.
We do recognise and understand that along the way people will need to talk and dig a little deeper and we have created strong relationships with many charitable and community services and health care professionals to best guide those in need. We have private consulting rooms and spaces, and also open space learning area to facilitate workshops and classes as part of growth in different directions.
OUR STORY AND HOW YOU CAN HELP
Connected By was founded in mid 2019, since then we have created strong foundations for a very bright future. We have created strong relationships with many rehabilitation providers, Doctors, and services working with Veterans and first responder communities .
About 6 months ago we moved to the site we have been working towards since before our inception. It's the old Caltex site down near Leighton Beach, it's amazing! If you don't know that part of the coast it's an old industrial site in North Fremantle, it's basically a shed and office in the middle of a paddock, it's a bit off the beaten path so it's nice and quiet and nice and private.
We have an amazing workshop where we teach people how to build incredible hollow wooden surfboards, which we call our Connected By Water program, the shed is up and running and our new builders are loving it.
But the best part about the new site isn't the super cool workshop or the ocean views, it's the scope it gives us to help others.
We have an epic outdoor space where we are developing our Connected By Gardening program to entice people back into the garden for pleasure and produce. We also have an open plan indoor space where we will offer our Connected By Art and Connected By Yoga programs. And importantly for our customers we have private consulting spaces where they can have visits with their rehabilitation consultants away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We are incredibly grateful for any support you can offer to help us help others, together we can make the world an even better place.
Connected By Inc. is a registered A.C.N.C charity with full DGR (Deductable gift recipient) status so any donation you make over $2 is tax deductable.
HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP
With money raised we will purchase the nuts and bolts for our new Connected By Programs, we have facilitators volunteers and eager participants ready to go, we just need the mats for the floor, the paints for the canvases, and some good dirt for the veggies., Ultimately it will help us keep the light on so we can share it.
Getting to where we are has been like any great journey, we packed way too much stuff at the start, forgot the sleeping bags, the tent got rained on, the car broke down, and we met amazing people, shared amazing stories of growth, saw amazing sights, we even realised a bigger dream, and most importantly we, the staff, board members, volunteers and friends of the shed did it together, it was the best journey ever!
We want more people to jump on the bus, to share a bit or all of the ride with us. I believe the destination determines the journey and when the destination changes so does the journey. The new road may be unknown and a little different and the servo sausage rolls not so crispy but where we are headed is a slice of heaven.
Please help us put fuel in the bus, and jump on!
