Supporting Children’s Hospital Atlanta CICU

Hello, I'm Patricia and this is my daughter's medical journey dictated by her. My name is Brooke. I went to the hospital complaining of a stomach ache. I was treated and told that my kidneys were failing. I was immediately admitted to ICU. After more tests, it was discovered that I had heart failure and needed a heart transplant. I was admitted to Children's Hospital Atlanta at Egleston in August 2022.

I have had several major surgeries. I had an LVAD implanted, which is a machine attached to my heart to do the work of the heart. I’ve since had a heart transplant and my lungs are now clear of fluid around them. I am on continuous dialysis until my kidneys begin functioning.

The staff has gone above and beyond in my care. For example, they’ve given me Spa days with manicures and pedicures. Many of them have bought me my favorite snacks, food from favorite restaurants, and even home cooked meals. They come in in their days off to sit with me. Many times they read to me, Play games, and watch tv with me. I’ve received pajamas, hair care products, beauty products, and Buddy care products from the medical team that takes care of me. They have used their own resources to provide some type of normalcy during my 7 month stay in ICU.

I’m raising funds to make a significant contribution to Children’s Hospital ICU and the medical Staff by preparing gift bags, donating meals, and purchasing self-care items as it has been generously done for me.
