Sleep deprived, middle-of-night shift delirious Erin has decided to take on the biggest challenge of her life- to complete the 4x4x48 challenge in aid of Nith Inshore Rescue and ARUK on the 14-16th November!
What is 4x4x48?
I’ll be running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours- totalling 48 miles in 2 days.
Why?
I’ve been volunteering as a crew member for NIR since 2021 so know how vital fundraising is to keep our boats afloat (couldn’t help myself there…). We are an independent lifeboat, meaning we don’t get any funding from the RNLI, and therefore rely on donations from the public to fund our life-saving searches and rescues.
My biggest hero, my Grandma, suffered from Alzheimer’s dementia and it robbed her of so many years of life with quality. When she died, I felt like I lost her twice; the first when the disease took over and all over again when she passed away. Too many families struggle watching their loved ones be affected by this horrible disease, and I would’ve done anything to have saved my Grandma from the suffering and indignity Alzheimer’s gave her. This challenge I’m about to take on is nothing in comparison to the challenges Grandma so bravely fought! ARUK is fighting to find the cure for Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, so that one day the diagnosis won’t be a life sentence affecting both patients and their families.
All money raised will be split 50/50 between NIR and ARUK and confirmation of donation will be posted once totals are finalised.
