Nissan Fundraiser for Arthur's SMA Journey
0% complete
£1,615 raised of £500
100 donations
Arthur was diagnosed with SMA type 2 at 18 months old. SMA or Spinal Muscular Atrophy is a rare progressive, genetic condition that causes degeneration of motor nerves and muscle weakness. There is no cure for SMA, however Arthur currently receives treatment every 4 months via lumber puncture, which will try and slow down the deterioration of his muscles. This treatment is under review to see if it will be approved as a treatment on the NHS.
Arthur uses a wheelchair as he can’t walk due to his condition. He attends weekly physiotherapy, hippotherapy (horse riding) & hydrotherapy sessions at a wonderful place called Heel and Toe Children's charity. The combination of treatments & therapy is working to strengthen his muscles and we hope that one day he will be able to take some independent steps.
We are working hard to give Arthur everything we can to help him and we will continue to do so. We live every day with a happiness in our hearts and a hope for the future.
Any money raised through this page will be used to help pay for Arthur's hydrotherapy sessions which are privately funded.
If you would like to learn more about SMA or Heel and Toe please visit the following links. Both of these charities have been amazingly supportive to us as a a family since Arthur’s diagnosis and the work they do is incredible.
