Niomi's Surgery Recovery

This is Niomi Sara Cota, as some of you know she has been struggling with severe scoliosis from the age of six.  Everything was done that could be done, back braces for almost a decade and continuous medical appointments and trialed interventions, but the news was received that surgery is now the only choice.  The curve has progressed to 46% and will keep progressing eventually damaging her organs.

Surgery is now planned for Monday 8/26/2019.  This is a major back surgery to
correct her spine and prevent damage to internal organs, with hospitalization and a long road to recovery which requires much care.

Jennifer DeRycke her mother, our sister, is a single mother to Niomi and Gianna.  Jennifer will have to take much time off from work-from not only her first job, but her second job that she has to care and provide for these children.  This cumulative time is unknown at this point with at least 12 weeks of recovery ahead of Niomi. There will be unpaid medical bills, lost wages, follow up care, devices and in-home care that will need coverage.  Her family will help as much as possible for care and support, but in this time we reach to our community for support.

Jennifer, as you most well know, would be the first one there at bat for anyone.  Phone call and she will show, ready to go, anything you need, anytime of the day, first one to have your back.  Jennifer is the first to support others cause, donate and give the shirt off her own back, even if she really shouldn't.

Jennifer has tried to provide the best summer these last few weeks for Niomi to get as much careless fun in as a 15 year old should have without these pending worries.

Let’s see if we can rally together to alleviate the burden from this Mom for the undetermined missed work, lost pay, and incurred costs she will have for being a good Mom and taking care of Niomi during her long recovery.
