In 2018 we collaborated with Dr. A.D. Carson and the UVa Libraries to start a historical archive of local Charlottesville hiphop culture. We also introduced the Heart, Soul, Runway gogo fashion show, hosted Charlottesville's first all-female rap concert, and supported the work of over 50 local artists, activists and entrepreneurs.
We also expanded our circle, including more visiting artists from Richmond, the Shenandoah Valley and Washington, D.C., as well as co-hosting an international b-boy battle along with UVa's Hooligans breakdance squad.
In 2019, we are extending even more, stretching our tendrils further into the southeast to welcome Louisiana's Marcel P. Black and North Carolina's legendary Cesar Comanche as block party performers...and we have even more exciting surprises up our sleeves for 2019!
This year's festival will take place April 22nd-28th, 2019. You can help us celebrate a vibrant global culture at an intimate local level, and bring increased visibility to hiphop in a city where support hasn't always been forthcoming.
Funds are needed by Monday, April 15th so we can adequately prepare for the festival. Put that tax refund check to good use!
