Nine Cavities: Student Web Series

Donation protected
Do you like dentists? Do you like farces? Do you like references to semi-popular early 2000’s sitcom stars? Then strap in! Nine Cavities may be the web series for you!

This spring, a group of UNCSA Drama and Film students will collaborate to produce a web series entitled, “Nine Cavities,” based on a play by UNCSA Drama senior Eric Canfield, who is currently working with a group of writers to adapt the 2 act play into a four episode saga. “Nine Cavities,” follows Louie and Benji Phillips, brothers and dentists in Thompson Falls, Montana with a minor secret: they’re not dentists at all. But after getting away with their scam for almost ten years, their new receptionist Rebecca may expose them once and for all. Capturing the absurdity of small town America and the dangers of contemporary group-think, “Nine Cavities” is a completely original comedy extravaganza that will have you triple-checking your dental insurance for the rest of your life.

Creating a web series of this size will allow many UNCSA students to add additional footage to their on-camera reels, spend time working on a set, showcase their writing in a way that is fully realized, and enter into film festivals across the country that have the opportunity to provide immense artistic exposure. In addition to this, creating a web series with a single SAG - AFTRA member could potentially allow every actor involved to enter SAG, which is the professional union for film and TV actors. All of these are ways in which the series can help send us into the industry more competitively. However, this is an entirely independent, student-produced project produced separate from our school; that’s where you come in. We are asking for $4,000 for costume and production costs, location usage, film equipment, marketing tools, and compensation for our actors and crew. A fully detailed budget breakdown will be listed below. Being full time students at UNCSA, coming up with funds for projects like these, which are fundamental to our continued growth, is often challenging given the circumstances and commitments of our conservatory training; we would so appreciate anything you would be willing to give to “Nine Cavities;” whether is be two dollars or your estate in Bora Bora.
