Just a year ago Nina completed endless rounds of intensive treatments and grueling surgeries for breast cancer. It was an epic battle during which she demonstrated grace, dignity, and heart. If you followed Nina's journey you would have witnessed her sense of humor, her wit, her candidness, and her ability to fight (and smile through some super tough times). Her sheer strength prevailed and she opened up to let us into her world.
Nina ended treatment with the hopes that cancer would be gone and life could begin to return to normal. But as we know, life throws us curveballs - and Nina was thrown a big one.
After recent severe stomach and hip pain, doctors discovered that Nina's cancer has spread. On November 6 at 33 years old, Nina was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
Since this diagnosis, doctor's have discovered lesions of metastatic breast cancer and breaks, in both her pelvis and spine. She has had emergency back surgery to prevent immediate paralysis which included a spinal fusion, rods, screws, and bolts. She's spent weeks in hospital and has faced the most painful nights and days of her life and in her battle with cancer. She is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation is in her future. Her future is filled with grueling treatments, much travel to San Francisco, endless appointments, and so much care.
In Nina's words...
"I did absolutely everything to try and avoid my cancer progressing. I understand it doesn't work like that, but it still feels tremendously unfair."
Nina needs our help. The costs of fighting cancer are rising daily. Nina has not been able to work since her original diagnosis over a year ago. Her job has been fighting for her life. Nina's mom has been by her side every step of the way, also taking a leave from her work, to care and tend to Nina. Medical, travel, and the costs of survival should be the very last thing Nina should be thinking about.
Let's show her our love, our support, and help ease this burden for her and her family. Please give what you can and help boost her up.
