Nina's Medical Journey

Donation protected
Nina Roldan, a native Texan and graduate of Trinity University, has been experiencing mysterious medical episodes for the last 4 years while living abroad in the United Kingdom. On a recent trip to the US, she experienced a stroke during a flight between Las Vegas, NV and Sacramento, CA. Fortunately, she was immediately transported to a stroke facility upon landing in Sacramento.

As Nina is a young and otherwise healthy 41-year old woman, the doctors & nurses working on her case are still searching for the root cause of the stroke. The neurologist discovered one of her vestibular arteries is much smaller than the other, which may be a contributing factor; however, the hematologist suspected something unusual on a lab report, which led him to run more labs. Ultimately, it appears that Nina may be dealing with a rare blood disorder (or two) that will require prolonged treatment.

Today, Nina remains hospitalized in Sacramento with her husband David at her side & each day brings new information. Despite the challenges of being half a world away from her own home in St. Ives, Cornwall, England...and 1,000 miles away from her parents & three children in San Antonio, Texas, Nina remains positive & determined to be the best patient she can be. She & David are grateful for the immediate outpouring of support she has received from friends, family & sorority sisters. More than anything, she is relieved to finally start uncovering some answers on this mystery medical journey she has been on for the last 4 years.

Your contribution will assist with the family's emergency travel expenses, Nina's eventual safe transport from California to Texas, and the various medical bills & incidentals the family of 5 will incur as they will be remaining in the US for the foreseeable future as Nina begins treatment. They will likely set-up their temporary home with Nina's parents in San Antonio.

NOTE: Nina is seeking recommendations for an excellent primary care physician, hematologist & rheumatologist in the greater San Antonio area to continue her healthcare once discharged from the facility in Sacramento. Please reach out should you be able to assist!
