Background

On March 19, 2025, Nilton was severely injured in a serious traffic accident. This event changed his life — and that of our entire family — drastically. He spent over three months in the hospital, including more than two months in a coma.

On June 28, Nilton was discharged from the hospital. However, he could not return home as before, as he now suffers from severe after-effects and is completely dependent on care. Since then, he has required round-the-clock caregiving, and the costs are only very partially covered by public health insurance.

Currently, this means that Nilton:

has no movement in his legs,

depends on a feeding tube,

requires continuous medication,

suffers frequent infections,

has a severe pressure ulcer (decubitus) that needs specialized treatment,

and his mobility is so limited that he would need daily physiotherapy — but at the moment, we can only afford one session per week.

The costs for caregivers, nurses, physiotherapy, medications, and medical care amount to more than €20,000 for six months. As a family, we do everything we can to support Nilton, but this burden is beyond what we can sustain in the long run.

Therefore, we have started this fundraising campaign to secure at least six months of comprehensive, professional care for Nilton. He has always been an active, helpful, and caring person — both within the family and among others.

Nilton is alive — and more than anything, we want him to continue living with dignity and the chance to improve.
