Niles North Student In Need

My name is Alejandra Arteaga, and I am a teacher and Latinx Club sponsor at Niles North High School.  Darinka is a Latinx club member in great need of help. The pandemic has taken a toll on her family and, unfortunately, both of her parents have lost their jobs. Due to preexisting medical conditions and employment ineligibility, it has been impossible for them to find a job or qualify for relief funds and other benefits. Darinka and her family have been unable to pay for rent and utility bills for the last seven months and they fear that they will be evicted soon. Not knowing were else to turn or who she could trust, Darinka turned to me for help. 

 As her teacher and club sponsor, I got to know Darinka very well. She is a sweet, shy girl with a very big heart. I know how difficult it was for her to open up to someone, and I'm honored that she was brave enough to share her situation with me. I feel a great responsibility to help her.
