Those of you who know me well, know that I take great pride in my hometown of Niland, California and that it has shaped the person I am today. So it is with a heavy heart I share that on Sunday night (June 28th), my home community was hit hard by a brush fire that spread throughout the town.
That night, essentially the entire town was evacuated (approximately 500 people). One person has died and over 40 homes were destroyed by the fire, leaving about 43 families (130 people) without a home. For this close-knit community, that has already been hit hard by continued economic hardship and most recently COVID-19, it is a devastating loss.
Niland is such a beautiful community filled with people that genuinely care for one another. I know this is trying times for many, but if you have the ability to share in this care and give to this relief effort it will be greatly appreciated.
All donations will be given to the Calipatria Unified School District- Niland Fire Fund to purchase much-needed items and secure temporary housing for those who lost their home.
