This year I have learned a lot that I might not have learned if it weren’t for the quarantine life we have all been living; how to start a garden and care for chickens, how to prepare and cook a variety of my favorite meals, how to train a puppy, how to maintain an active lifestyle within the limits of my own home and arguably the most critical, how to use technology to stay on top of my education and connected to my friends and family.
It is pretty obvious that having strong computer literacy is a key factor in establishing a solid foundation for my future. Which is why I have chosen to take on building my own computer. Yes, I will be using this computer to game with my friends while we are restricted to quarantined “hang outs”. I will also be exploring the world of 3D design, photoshop and coding. Next fall I will be entering 7th grade and will have the opportunity to begin learning robotics and programming, which seem to be two of the most valuable fields in our world today. A computer like this will last me a very long time and because I am building it myself I will be able to fix and replace parts of it as needed to keep it up to date over the years, which makes the investment even more valuable than buying a standard PC or laptop which will only last a few years.
Aside from asking our friends and family for help in raising the money for all the parts I will need to build this epic computer, I am also taking on earning what I can by walking dogs in our neighborhood and doing other tasks for the elderly in my life who need a hand. I earn a small allowance from my parents and I have been saving that up for a few months now too, but I’d like to have this computer built by the 1st of the new year. 2021 here I come!
