Hi everyone,

Our names are Patty Garcia and Mathew Piccioni, and we are reaching out to our Brampton Excelsior family, friends, and the greater lacrosse community to ask for your support for a family who is incredibly near and dear to so many of us — the Lowe family.

In July 2025, many of you learned that Niky was admitted to the hospital, where doctors discovered a large mass hidden behind his lungs. What followed was a long and incredibly difficult journey that would test Niky and his family in ways no family should ever have to endure.

Niky faced chemotherapy head-on. Through it all, he remained incredibly positive and continued to show the strength, courage, and spirit that so many of us knew and loved about him.

Messages of encouragement, prayers, kind words, and support poured in from family, friends, teammates, coaches, and members of the lacrosse community. Those messages meant more than people could ever know. They gave Niky strength on the difficult days and reminded him that he was never fighting alone.

In September 2025, after an incredible 20 treatments in just 75 days, Niky reached a milestone that so many had been hoping and praying for. He rang the Bell of Bravery with pride — a moment that represented his courage, determination, and the tremendous fight he had shown every step of the way.

In October 2025, Niky underwent surgery at Toronto General Hospital. With one of the country’s top thoracic surgeons and her incredible team caring for him, the family knew he was in the best possible hands. Five hours later, through extraordinary skill and dedication, the remaining mass was removed.

From the very beginning, the goal had always been a cure.

For a time, there was hope that Niky was well on his way. But the journey wasn’t over. His doctors continued to closely monitor him, requiring months of follow-up appointments, tests, treatments, and hospital visits.

Unfortunately, as the months went on, the news became increasingly difficult.

Still, Niky never stopped fighting.

There were more treatments. More doctors’ appointments. More tests. More trips in and out of hospitals. Long nights spent in hospital rooms, meals grabbed on the road, and countless difficult days that most of us could never fully understand.

Through every one of those moments, Niky continued to face what was in front of him with incredible positivity and determination.

He was a fighter.

But for those who knew Niky, you also knew there was so much more to him than his battle with cancer.

His heart belonged to lacrosse.

The sport, his teammates, his friends, and the lacrosse community gave him so much joy. Whenever he could, Niky surrounded himself with the people and the sport he loved. Even during the most challenging parts of his journey, lacrosse remained an important part of his life.

Sadly, on September 10, 2026, Niky passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

There are no words that can truly express the loss felt by the Lowe family, or by the many people whose lives Niky touched.

Today, we are asking our Brampton Excelsior family and the greater lacrosse community to come together once again — this time to support the Lowe family as they navigate the unimaginable loss of their son, brother, teammate, friend, and loved one.

We are hoping to raise funds to help ease some of the financial burden associated with funeral and memorial arrangements, allowing the Lowe family the space and time they need to grieve, remember Niky, and be together.

If you are able to contribute, any amount — big or small — would mean so much to the Lowe family. And if you are unable to donate, simply sharing this message, keeping the Lowe family in your thoughts, or sharing a memory of Niky is just as meaningful.

Now, it’s our turn to come together for him and his family.
