Nik's Bucket List

Donation protected
Sixteen year old Nik Murdoch has terminal cancer. Help us fulfill Nik's bucket list and support his family. We don't know how long Nik has left with us, it may be as little as 3-6 mths. Nik is in pain so its important to raise as much money as quickly as we can so Nik can enjoy the time he has left before the pain gets too much. Nik has a dream to go to Japan. Let's make it happen!

Nik was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Stage 4 in June 2013. Neuroblastoma is a form of cancer that often begins in childhood. By the time it was diagnosed Nik had a large tumour on his adrenal gland and the cancer had spread to his skull, spine, shoulders, hips and knees. Nik had surgery to remove the tumour and chemotherapy to treat the remaining cancer.  Sadly, these treatments did not cure the cancer and after an unsucessful attempt at treatment with a trial drug, Nik decided he would not endure anymore of the painful experimental treatments.

Deangelo, Jen and Nik

For several years Nik's cancer seemed to be laying dormant, and Nik got on with life as a 16 year old. Nik is an extremely fun, happy, cheeky young man and he seemed to be making up for the time he was sick by always being busy, skating and having fun with his mates.

Recently, while being treated for whooping cough a new scan indicated that the cancer has spread again. Nik is experiencing pain and, as no further treatment options exist, he will be cared for by the palliative team until the cancer takes him.

Nik with his big bro De (above).

Nik is a Wollongong boy who attendsKeira High School and lives with his mum, Jen, his lovely, quiet brother Deangelo and stepfather, Chris. He also has a stepsister named Lily. Jen was a single mother for the majority of Nik's childhood and has done an amazing job raising her beautiful boys. Jen is one of the most generous people I have ever met. Its heart breaking to watch her gut wrenching grief about losing her baby boy. Jen has recently started a casual job and she is worried about paying bills and making home comfortable for Nik. No mother should have to face losing a child, having to worry about money seems like an unnecessary cruelty. Help provide Jen and her family with some additional funds to make sure she can provide him with a comfortable home, mobility equipment, medication and whatever they need in this difficult time.
